The Powermat

Posted on Mon ,05/17/2010 by Andrew

Let me address your first question. No this is not a skateboard for gadgets. However, it can provide something a bit more necessary for your phone than its longing for entertainment, and that something would be keeping it alive. This Powermat is designed to charge your iPhone, Blackberry, Nintendo DS, and a multitude of other products. So you’re probably thinking, “Yea, our chargers are meant to do the same thing.” But there’s a kick to this mat. It can charge your devices just by placing it on this mat. By placing a receiver on your devices or by connecting it using a Powermat square, you can avoid being hassled by wires and cords that just get tangled up. Whether or not this mat is good for you is up to you to decide, but that does not take away from the cool factor of this gadget.

Windows 7 ‘compatibility Checker’ is a Trojan

Posted on Wed ,05/12/2010 by Jay S

trojan-horse

Scammers are infecting computers with a Trojan horse program disguised as software that determines whether PCs are compatible with Windows 7. The attack was first spotted by BitDefender on Sunday and is not yet widespread; the antivirus vendor is receiving reports of about three installs per hour from its users in the U.S. The scammers steal their marketing text directly from Microsoft, which offers a legitimate Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor in its Web site.

Users who try to install the attached, zipped file end up with a back-door Trojan horse program on their computer. BitDefender identifies the program as Trojan.Generic.3783603, the same one that’s being used in a fake Facebook password reset campaign. Once a victim has installed the software, criminals can pretty much do whatever they want on the PC… That could mean installing a keylogger to steal banking credentials or even gaining full access to the hacked system.

Bolster Your Efficiency by Configuring Your Mouse Buttons!

Posted on Tue ,04/13/2010 by Jay C

Did you know that the most commonly used mouse actions are clicking a window’s “Close” button (the X in the top-right corner), and clicking the “Back” button (in a browser and various other programs)?  How much time do you spend every day locating the Close button or the Back button with your mouse so that you can click on them?  And what about that mouse you’re using – how many buttons does it have, besides the two main ones?  Most mouses these days have at least four (including the scroll-wheel, which a lot of people don’t realize is also a button as well).  Why not assign those extra buttons to your most common mouse actions, and save yourself a bundle of mousing-around time every day?
